There are many out there that cater to different interests and needs, so there is something out there for you as well! Below is a list of a few internships to apply for with a brief description about what to expect, when the application is due, and its website if you want more information about it. Internships
Medical Internships:
- Smdep - a 6 week medical/dental program for freshmen and sophomores that is free and includes full tuition, housing and meals. The application is due on or before March 1, 2012. To apply, their website is www.smdep.org/
- City of Hope/CURE program - a summer research opportunity where participants spend 10 weeks working full time on biomedical research. You also will receive a stipend of $4,000. Plant/Botany/Environmental Internships:
- UC Davis' CREATE program - a summer research program for those interested in plant biotechnology. The participants receive housing and meals, as well as a weekly stipend of $450. The application is due February 10, 2012. To apply, their website is http://create-reu.ucdavis.edu/
Math and Engineering Internships:
- Drexel University REU for Math and Engineering - this 10 week research summer program is geared towards juniors and seniors interested in discovering more about engineering cities. Physics Internships:
- Baylor's CASPER program - a 10 week summer research program that deals with the topic of physics. This program provides a housing stipend, a travel stipend, and a personal stipend of $5,000. Biology Internships:
- NIDDK/OMHRC summer internship - a 10 week research program for underrepresented minority groups. This program caters to those who have interests dealing with biology topics. Participants receive travel expenses up to $500, housing and an allowance of $2,500. The application is due February 15, 2012. Other:
- NNIN program - a 10 week summer research opportunity that focuses on the topic of nanotechnology. This program is open to a broad range of interests, from biological and chemical to the ethical issues of nanotechnology. So even if you aren't a STEM major, you should still give it a look and see if you're interested in it. Participants receive a $4,000 stipend and is provided with housing and travel expenses. - UCSB's CAMP program - This program takes place at our dear campus of UCSB. It is a 10 week research experience open to all STEM majors who work with a graduate student or professor who is working on a topic that the participant finds interesting. This program also provides a $3,000 stipend to participants. This application is due April 8, 2012, but you have to find who you are working with before you apply for this program.
