UCSB History
Here at UCSB, NSBE has had its share of ups and downs. Being inactivate for some time, the campus started to see a lack of African American students pursuing majors in the fields of STEM. With this followed a trend of African Americans dropping out of the STEM fields prematurely. Seeing that many students were lacking confidence in their abilities and in need of a support system, NSBE was restarted. Under new leadership and direction, NSBE’s UCSB chapter wants to not only be a support group for African American students in the STEM fields but also promote these fields to upcoming students. Some of our goals are to help our members develop networking skills, promote the fields of STEM to the generation under us and to help students continue on their journey of success in their respective majors. Each year, NSBE’s following gets stronger and we hope to continue to impact our campus and community.
